Its Like Pulling Teeth

Can anyone out there imagine how stimuli-deprived Bill and I must be here in the bowels of retirement world that we look at the prospect of having several teeth drilled by a Mexican dentist with a fairly limited understanding of the English language as an adventure?  If, oh, let’s say five years ago, someone had said to me “Patt, one day you’re going to go to a foreign country and you’re going to let someone who doesn’t speak English put a pair of pliers in your mouth and yank out a couple of molars and you’re going to look forward to it!”  I’m sure I would have checked their eyes to see how big their pupils were or how bloodshot the whites were.  And then I would have laughed and nodded and slowly backed away from an obviously crazy person.

But here we are, stepping up the fun in our lives by going back to Mexico next week to have some dental work done.  This time we’re spending the night because I’m getting two extractions and then two titanium implants plus bone graphs, and I have to go back the next day for a couple of temporary crowns.  Sounds like fun, right?  Well maybe to a masochist, which I’m not – at least I never was before moving to Sun City.  Bill’s pretty lucky – he’s only having a few fillings, which will require being stabbed with a hypodermic needle in several places throughout his mouth.  And it’s somewhat frightening because he’s almost giddy with excitement.

At least there’s a casino on the U.S. side of the border.  Maybe as a distraction from the post-dental pain, we can go throw away some money in a few slot machines.  Or maybe we’ll just go directly to the cashier window and toss a couple of twenties through and then leave.  On the bright side, at least we can get some cheap tequila.

So, as they say in Españo ” Deje al panecito de tiempos bueno.”  Or, for you gringos out there, “let the good times roll!”

Actually know people who have made a Mexican vacation out of getting major dental work done! And our show driver was on the border with an abscessed tooth, and the Navy crew took him to Mexico for treatment (with no probs). Enjoy! Whale of a vacation this sounds like, Cuz.

I know… we were there in August to get the “estimate” and everyone was great. This dental office was highly recommended by our neighbors. I must admit though, I’m mostly looking forward to getting the cheap booze.
