Turn right, turn right… oh, never mind

Dinner is always at 6 PM – which, by Sun City standards is pretty cosmopolitan since the typical dining hour hovers somewhere between 4:30 and 5:00.  Most of our conversations with Mom take place at dinner, which is ALWAYS spent in the living room, plates on our laps, in front of the TV.  One conversation we had (which is frighteningly typical) went like this:

“Did you see the news story about making traffic better?” Mom asked one evening.

“Nope,” I responded.  “What story?”

“Well, they did a study and they found that if people just made right turns, it would really help traffic move better and there would be less accidents.  So now they’re trying it out in some town somewhere.  And if you have to go left, you either turn with the flow of traffic or you go farther up the street and turn around in one of those boulevard cut outs, then go back and make a right.”
