“What Obama’s doing.”
Putting down my half peeled Tangelo, I walked into the living room. The TV was blaring with the local noon news, which was focused on Justice Scalia’s death.
“Okay, what’s he doing?” I asked.
“Obama. You said you couldn’t believe what he was doing.”
“Oh, that. Well he’s going to decide the election.”
“Is that so? And how’s he going to do that?”
“He’s going to nominate the next president,” she replied.
“No, he’s not. He’s going to nominate a new…
“Well I think it must be illegal somewhere for him to do that,” she huffed. “Don’t we have to vote or something?”
“Yes, Mom, we have to vote. And he’s not nominating the next president, he’s nominating a new Supreme Court judge.”
“Oh, well, that makes more sense,” she said, nodding her head. “Besides, pretty soon it won’t matter.”
“Why is that?”
“Because Trump’s beating him in the polls so he probably won’t get reelected any way.”
