Three StoogesPosted: July 5, 2011
Sunday morning on Face the Nation, Bob Schieffer was interviewing several State governors, including Governor John Kasich of Ohio. Suddenly, Mom looked up from her scrambled eggs and started to snicker.
“What’s so funny?” I asked.
“That he wants to put Obama in a nursing home,” she said with a grin.
“What? Who?” I asked, almost choking on a bite of cantaloupe.
“Him,” she said, waving her English muffin at Governor Kasich on the screen.
“No he didn’t,” I said. “He said Ohio’s saving Medicaid money by letting mom and dad stay home instead of going into a nursing home.”
“But his parents are dead, aren’t they?” she asked.
“No, Mom. Anyone’s parents.”
“I thought his mother lived with him,” piped in Bill.
“No, it’s his mother-in-law,” I said.
“Who’s first?” Mom asked.
“Michele’s mother,” Bill answered.
“You know, Mom, the First Lady.”
“Oh. Is her mother in a nursing home too?”
At that point in the conversation I suggested that we change the channel. I was hoping maybe there was a Three Stooges rerun on somewhere. It would have made more sense.
