Soap On A RopePosted: May 11, 2011
While eating dinner in front of the TV shortly after the new year, a news story about a recently released felon who was involved in a shooting inside the Chandler Mall had just finished up and the newsperson announced that, since afternoon programming had been interrupted to cover the story earlier in the day, the daytime soap, General Hospital, would be rerun a 1:40 a.m.
“I guess people can’t miss their soaps,” I laughed.
“Nope, I guess not,” my husband Bill responded.
“I know, I heard that earlier,” Mom interjected. “They’re going to show the story again between 1 and 2 o’clock in hospitals.”
“No, Mom,” I said, “They’re going to replay the soap opera because it was preemted by the news story.”
“No,” she insisted. “They said they were going to show the story again because people in hospitals didn’t get to see it.”
“No, they’re going to replay the program ‘General Hospital’ at 1:40 in the morning – not repeat the news story in hospitals between 1 and 2 in the morning!” Bill explained.
“Oh, well that makes more sense then what they said before.” she replied.
